There is no extensive public transport system in Oman. So cars are the most popular means of transportation. The costs involved in buying, insuring and maintaining a car are very reasonable and fuel is up to 50% cheaper than in many part of the world.
Oman has one expressway grade highway running along the Batinah coast of the Gulf of Oman. It is the trunk road running through the city. Other roads are also 2 lane highways in a very good condition.
Make sure that your car is properly washed or else you could be stopped by police and ordered to go .Roll your sleeves and start to scrub your car after a weekend of off road adventuring. You can reach the nearest car wash centre for making sure that you don’t drive dirty. Please note it is against law to drive a dirty car.
