The town is characterised by its many winding roads, some so narrow that you have to pull over to let an oncoming car pass. Whether you explore the town of Bahla on foot or by car, you will find an eclectic balance of the new, functioning town, the ancient, fascinating ruins, and the many date plantations that are perfect picnic spots.
Bahla is enclosed by a protective, fortified wall that stretches for 12km around the town. Although large sections of the wall are still standing, parts of it are in ruins and earmarked for eventual reconstruction.
