Bilad Sur Castle
Bilad fort is inland from Sur, on the road to Muscat. It was built around 1800 AD to defend Sur from attacks staged by tribes from the interiors and is based around a large central courtyard with watchtowers at each corner. The two main towers have small extensions built to enable the defenders to get a higher vantage point from which to spot the enemy. The fort is surrounded by lush date palm plantations and makes a pleasant day out.

Ras Al Hadd Beach
The beaches around Ras Al Hadd are famous for nestling turtles. They are also popular with visitors who like relaxing atmosphere and tropical surroundings. The turtle Beach resort located on the end of a beautiful turquoise bay. Is good choice for those who like to combine simplicity with luxury. The drive from Muscat will take you between four or five hours, so many people make a weekend trip out of it.

Sunaysilah Fort
The fort in Sur overlooks the town and offers commanding views of the area and the coastline. It is built on relatively simple square design with four towers at each corner and probably about 300 years old. It was restored in 1989 and is open to visitors. You need a permit from Ministry of Culture & National Heritage in Muscat. The fort is open from Sunday to Thursday. Admission fee is 500 Baisas.

Food shopping
Sur town used to have only a couple of very small supermarkets, which sell the basic daily necessities, but the opening of the first large supermarket in Sur has paved the way for more shops and a commercial centre is planned. As well as this the vegetable market and the brand new fish market offer a large range of daily fresh products.
Moreover, the club in the HAS complex offers an excellent service: twice a week they collect orders and a shopping service from/to Muscat guarantees more 'European/American' type products which are widely available in the capital.

Pork can be bought in Muscat from a couple of the larger supermarkets. It is more expensive than in Europe but good quality. Alcohol can be bought from the bulk store in both clubs; all items are available - red and white wine, beer and spirits for consumption in your own home and at the club.
