The Marbat dance troupe performed many traditional dances at the finale of the Khareef festival in 1998.Tourists also visit the blowholes at Mughsail west of Salalah, where jets of water are forced up through narrow vents in the limestone rocks.  Seas are high during the monsoon season, and care should be taken swimming. Many of the visitors camp out on the plain north of Salalah, cooking on improvised barbecues.  The municipality has been organizing a Khareef festival since 1952 to encourage this tourism. Salalah has a unique charm with its coconut groves and banana plantations growing right to the water's edge. Its beautiful beaches of white sand are a heaven for swimmers and sea lovers.

The rugged beauty of its fertile plains, its fresh water springs, its bustling souks and tropical landscape leave a lasting impression on the visitors mind. The best time to visit Salalah is from June to September, When the monsoon rains lash the region, turning it into a tropical paradise.
