Muscat has a reasonable number of bars. Most are located within hotels and the 'in' places are a hive of after hours activity. In addition to the bars reviewed here, there are plenty of others (usually in the smaller hotels), that may not attract the regular crowd but which are still worth popping in to, if only to try a change of scenery.
Most bars have a reasonably relaxed attitude to their customers’ dress sense. Some places, however, insist on no shorts or sandals, while others require at least a shirt with a collar and no jeans.
Nightclubs generally have a dressier approach, so dress to impress. As Oman’s reputation as a trendy tourist destinations grows, the dress code will no doubt get stricter.
Some places hold occasional promotions with different themes and offers, as well as special nights such as Ladies Nights, which are usually held weekly. You can find out what the promotions of the moment are in weekly and monthly entertainment publications and from the venues directly.
Popular activity nights, such as quiz evenings, are mainly promoted in a bar or pub and many attract quite a following. As a bonus, the (liquid) prizes are often quite good.
