Al Batinah Region contains the largest number of wilayat numbering twelve: Sohar, Ar Rustaq, Shinas, Liwa, Saham, Al Khaburah, As Suwayq, Nakhal, Wadi Al Maawil, Al Awabi, Al Musanaah, Barka. As Suwayq (Suaiq) is considered as the biggest walyah in the Batinah Region. Oman’s system of government is an absolute monarchy and hereditary through the male line of Sayyid Turki bin Said bin Sultan of the Al Busaidi Dynasty, the great great-grandfather of the present ruler, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. He is the Head of State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. He is also Prime Minister, Defence Minister and Foreign Minister, although the day-to-day running of these and various other ministries is performed by a Council of Ministers.
