Al Batinah Region, otherwise known as Al Batinah It occupies an important location on the coast of Gulf of Oman. It lies between Khatmat Malahah in the north and Ras AL Hamra in the south and confined between Al Hajr Al Gharbi Mountains in the west and the Gulf of Oman in the east. Al Batinah Region contains the largest number of wilayat numbering twelve: Sohar, Ar Rustaq, Shinas, Liwa, Saham, Al Khaburah, As Suwayq, Nakhal, Wadi Al Maawil, Al Awabi, Al Musanaah, Barka. As Suwayq (Suaiq) is considered as the biggest walyah in the Batinah Region.
Salalah’s system (Under Oman) of government is an absolute Monarchy and hereditary through the male line of Sayyid Turki bin Said Sultan of the Al busaidi Dynasty, the great grandfather of the present ruler, His majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said .He is the head of the State and the Supreme commander of the Armed Forces. He is also the Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Foreign Minister. The bascis law provides for a bicarmel legislature prsided over by the Majlis Oman (Council of Oman).Members are elected by Omani’s cititzens to represent the various Wilayats and the Majlis Al Dawla’ whose members are appointed by the Sultan. System is based on Islamic Shariah law and English common law. Sultan has been extremely capable, far sighted and benign leader, held in high regard by his people.
