   City History

 

Qurm lies in the center of the great town Muscat. Qurm means Mangrove in English and this explains how sweet the city even by its name and culture. The city lies stretching along the coast north of Madinat As Sultan Qaboos and the commercial city, Ruwi. Qurm is mainly divided into 2 main districts – Qurm and Shatti Al Qurm.

This modern and the expensive metropolitan city area spans approximately 1500 km². Likewise most of the Sultanate of Oman areas are well know from the early 1st century as an important trade port between the west and the east, Qurm was also famous from the olden days itself.

The places were all ruled by indigenous tribe as well as powers from the foreign countries. This included the Persian and the Portuguese Empires.

As said earlier, Qurm means Mangrove in English, let us give you some more details regarding it.

The trees and shrubs that are usually seen in the tropics and the sub tropics and that grow in saline or blackish can be generally termed as Mangroves.
